Discover the "Koninklijke Gallois Genootschap"
Th/dive Royal Belgian Institute of Marine Engineers is a study-circle for ship engineers and technicians in the ship building industry, ship mechanics and related sectors, also for everybody who is interested in this branch of the industry. The society was founded on March 31st, 1947 and named after the illustrious professor Gallois from the Antwerp Maritime Academy. The roughly 600 members of the association come from all sections of the maritime and industrial world, such as ship engineers, ship building industry, ship management, ship repair, classification societies, offshore, but also people from the chemical and petrochemical industry.
The objective of the association: The main goal of the association is to inform its members about every evolution in technological areas as well as in practical knowledge, in all aspects of the shipping industry. This is realised through: Technical lectures given by specialised companies or organisations from the maritime or industrial world. The publication of a bimonthly magazine, 620 copies, with information from the worldwide maritime press. The organisation of technical visits to maritime or industrial sites. The organisation of other technical manifestations and/or realisations, which are of interest for our members and the youngsters who are interested in this industry.
Organisation The association is managed by a management council under the leadership of a president. The daily follow-up is done by a secretariat and an executive committee. The editorial office, under the leadership of the editor, is in charge of the publication of the bimonthly magazine.
Het Gallois Genootschap, gesticht in 1947 door wijlen Prof. G. Gallois, is een studiekring voor scheepswerktuigkundigen en technici. Onze leden situeren zich in diverse industrieën zoals rederijen, scheepsbouw en aanverwante toeleveranciers, raffinaderijen, chemische bedrijven, herstellingsbedrijven en bedrijven die belangstelling hebben in deze nijverheidstak, zeevarenden en studenten van de Hogere Zeevaartschool, studenten van verschillende technische scholen,. De studiekring wordt beheerd door een Raad van Beheer volgens welbepaalde Statuten. De studiekring heeft als doelstelling haar leden te informeren over de evolutie van de maritieme wereld, zowel op technologisch als op praktische gebied. Deze doelstelling wordt gerealiseerd door:
Het houden van technische lezingen, gegeven door gespecialiseerde bedrijven of organisaties uit de maritieme  en industriële sectoren. Het uitgeven van een tweemaandelijks tijdschrift, beheerd door de Redactieraad, dat informatie verstrekt uit    de wereldwijde maritieme pers. Het inrichten van technische bezoeken aan maritieme en industriële sites. Het organiseren van familiale uitstappen.
